Toadal Domination!

We TOAD you these cards are incredible!

By John Bae December 08, 2016

Surpassing even the incredibly powerful Metalfoes, Toadally Awesome has become the most popular monster in Invasion: Vengeance since its release a month ago! This odd, amphibious Xyz Monster has provided backup for some of the strongest monsters out there thanks to its ability to negate a Spell, Trap or monster effect in return for sending an Aqua-Type monster, often itself, to the Graveyard. Here are some of the strategies that have gotten a lot more Awesome in the last thirty days!

One common criticism of HERO Decks these days is that they rely too much on Masked HERO Dark Law and don’t do anything else. That’s definitely not true anymore thanks to Toadally Awesome! Two copies of Elemental HERO Bubbleman, or a monster like Rare Fish Summoned by Instant Fusion along with a Bubbleman, lets you Xyz Summon Bahamut Shark, which in turn can Summon Toadally Awesome. That’s 7200 ATK and a whole lot of disruption in just three monsters!

Paleozoic Opabinia and Paleozoic Anomalocaris are an extremely strong duo, letting you grab Trap Cards from your Deck and play them straight from your hand or destroy a card on the field whenever you want during either player’s turn. They’re both immune to monster effects, but that doesn’t stop them from being wiped out in an instant by Raigeki or Interrupted Kaiju Slumber. Fortunately, when the “Paleozoic” Trap Cards change into monsters they become Level 2 Aqua-Type monsters, exactly what you need to add Toadally Awesome to the field so you can keep the Trap train running smoothly!

Mermails have been around forever, but they really made it back into the national spotlight when Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince was released in Breakers of Shadow. Now they’re back in the spotlight again and even better than ever, thanks to Toadally Awesome! Many of the best plays a Mermail Deck can make end with Abyss-scale of the Mizuchi on the field to negate a Spell Card and two more cards discarded from your opponent’s hand by Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord, but because there are so many Level 4 WATER monsters in the Deck that are easy to Special Summon, Bahamut Shark and Toadally Awesome can make those plays even better!

Even if you don’t want to actually play with Toadally Awesome, it’s still worth getting your hands on a copy. Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries can eliminate every Toadally Awesome from your opponent’s Extra Deck before they can be Summoned, but you need to have one of your own in order to use it!

You’ll have another chance to add the terrifying tower of toads to your collection when Invasion: Vengeance Special Edition  launches on December 9!
