The “Qliphort” monsters from The New Challengers combine the oldest strategy in the book with the newest one. They’re a group of Pendulum Monsters that focus on using Pendulum Summoning to acquire monsters to Tribute for Tribute Summons!
Pendulum Summoning and Tribute Summoning are both strategies that take a lot of cards to start up and sustain. That’s why Qliphort Scout is the most important monster to have early on in a Duel! It pulls double duty as both the high-end of your Pendulum Summoning set-up with its Pendulum Scale of 9 and your ticket to adding an extra card to your hand each turn. While Qliphort Scout is in your Pendulum Zone, you can pay 800 LP to add any “Qli” card from your Deck to your hand, once per turn. That can get you any “Qliphort” monster along with any of their Spell and Trap Cards, since they all use “Qli” somewhere in the name.
It’s really easy to get Qliphort Scout into your hand as well. It’s a Level 5 Normal Monster as well as a Pendulum Monster, so Summoner’s Art can add it straight to your hand. On top of that, it has low ATK—1000 to be precise! That means that you can use Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (from Duelist Alliance) add it to your hand as well, though you won’t be able to Pendulum Summon Odd-Eyes back if you do, as each “Qliphort” Pendulum Monster has a Pendulum Effect that prohibits Special Summoning non-“Qli” monsters that can’t be negated. However, you can still use Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon as the low Pendulum Scale for a big Pendulum Summon, as all of the “Qliphort” monsters are Level 5 or higher!
Pendulum Monsters make great Tributes because they go straight back to the Extra Deck where they can be Pendulum Summoned again and again, but the real draw in the Qliphort strategy is what you can Tribute them for! Apoqliphort Towers is a gargantuan Level 10 monster with 3000 ATK that requires three “Qli” Tributes in order to Tribute Summon it. And it is totally worth it! Apoqliphort Towers is unaffected by all Spells and Traps and any effect activated by a monster whose Level or Rank is lower than Towers’ Level. But wait, there’s more! All Special Summoned monsters also lose 500 ATK and DEF, and you can force your opponent to send a monster from their hand or field to the Graveyard each turn!
You can check out this brand new Pendulum Summoning strategy when The New Challengers hits stores on November 7th!
