High-Speed Riders is a modern take on the memorable monsters and mechanics from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s! Synchro Summoning is once again at the forefront with two new full Deck themes dedicated to it, but there’s also a good portion of the set devoted to the Duelist who needs no theme: Jack Atlas!

Jack’s focus in both the 5D’s manga and anime was on Summoning his ace monster, Red Dragon Archfiend or Hot Red Dragon Archfiend and riding it to victory. If the basic version didn’t work, he’d then shove more and more Tuner monsters into it to create upgraded versions until he eventually won. High-Speed Riders has five different versions of Jack’s ace monster—Red Nova Dragon from the anime, and then the debut of Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss and Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane from the manga!

Both basic versions of Red Dragon Archfiend are DARK Level 8 Dragons with 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF. Which one you want to Summon first depends on how your opponent is playing. If they’re using a lot of Defense Position monsters, you’ll want Red Dragon Archfiend to clear them off the field, and if they’re attacking with everything they’ve got, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend can clear out all Attack Position monsters.

From there, you’ll have to weigh your options depending on how many more monsters you think you can Summon this turn, and whether or not your opponent has any cards face-down. If they do and you can Summon a Level 1 Tuner, you can Synchro Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. Its special ability lets you negate any face-up card that’s on your opponent’s side of the field for a full turn, during either player’s turn. This can even work on Normal Spells and Traps much like Contrast HERO Chaos’s effect. It also revives a Tuner from your Graveyard each time it inflicts damage, so that when you’ve worn your opponent down enough, you can use one of those Tuners to Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane!

If you have the ability to Summon more than one monster, including a Level 2 Tuner, and you can keep your opponent’s Trap Cards out of the way, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane is the monster you want! You can Tribute one of your monsters to Summon back a “Red Dragon Archfiend” monster from your Graveyard, to almost double your offensive output for the turn! Successfully resolving this effect and attacking directly will often end the Duel in just one Battle Phase, but if it doesn’t, inflicting damage will let you Summon two Tuner monsters with the same Level (one from your Deck and one from your Graveyard) to use in future Synchro Summons or to use your other monsters’ effects.

High-Speed Riders will be off and running on October 2nd!
