The 2014 Mega-Tins are a new spin on the annual Yu-Gi-Oh! Collectible Tins! These Mega-Tins are literally bigger than ever, upgrading from regular booster packs to Mega-Packs—each with 16 cards from a 247 card mega-set that draws the very best cards from Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy all the way through Legacy of the Valiant. Each Mega-Pack has one Secret Rare, one Ultra Rare, one Super Rare, one Rare, and 12 commons. Here’s a look at some of our top picks making their second appearance in the 2014 Mega-Tin Mega-Packs!
Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack has been one of the top Xyz Monsters of any Rank ever since its initial release in Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy! As a Rank 7 monster, it was perfectly suited to work with the Dragon Rulers (from Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy) and many other monsters like Mermails and Sylvans. But its original purpose was to serve as the boss of the Mecha Phantom Beasts, WIND Machine-Type monsters that create Tokens to modify their own Levels and fuel powerful effects!
In the entire history of Synchro Monsters, there are only four Level 5 Synchro Monsters that Duelists consider as must-haves, and Armades, Keeper of Boundaries from Judgment of the Light is one of them! With 2300 ATK and an ability that stops the opponent from playing any cards or effects while he’s battling, Armades trumps hundreds of popular cards from all eras of Dueling. And he has no special Synchro Material requirements, so you can add Armades, Keeper of Boundaries to any Extra Deck!
Ghostrick Alucard (from Shadow Specters) was initially ignored in favor of the much bigger and flashier Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand, but as a Rank 3 Xyz Monster, Ghostrick Alucard is much easier to play than the Rank 8 Felgrand. It’s a valuable part of every Deck that uses Level 3 monsters, combining solid ATK for a Rank 3 monster with the ability to destroy any face-down card, even face-down monsters, by just detaching an Xyz Material. The most recent Deck to take advantage of Alucard is the new Burning Abyss Deck, made possible by Duelist Alliance, where it's a target for Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force, which can transform it into Crimson Knight Vampire Bram (from Shadow Specters).
Believe it or not, there was once a fierce debate over whether Evilswarm Exciton Knight or Number 101: Silent Honor ARK was the best Rank 4 Xyz Monster in Legacy of the Valiant. In the end, there was no winner, and there didn’t need to be because both monsters are absolutely amazing and can go into any Deck.
Evilswarm Exciton Knight can wipe the field of everything but itself during either player’s turn, provided you have fewer total cards between your hand and field than your opponent does. It’s a great comeback card and remarkably easy to play even when you don’t need a comeback. Silent Honor ARK is a great card to have any time your opponent Special Summons, which is probably almost every turn. It can absorb your opponent’s Attack Position Special Summoned monster as Xyz Material and then use it to protect itself from destruction. It’s not often you see an Extra Deck that contains Rank 4 monsters but doesn’t contain both Evilswarm Exciton Knight and Number 101: Silent Honor Ark!
The 2014 Mega-Tins offer an amazing instant replay on almost all of the top cards from the past year of Dueling. They won’t last forever though, so pick one up while you can!
