Primal Origin introduces the new Artifact monsters, which lie in wait as Spell Cards before turning into Monster Cards after they’re destroyed! Here’s your primer on how the new Artifact monsters work!
You can Set Artifact monsters in your Spell & Trap Zone as Spell Cards, and they are Special Summoned after being destroyed on your opponent’s turn! In addition, they have powerful effects that activate when they’re Summoned during your opponent’s turn. With cards like Double Cyclone and Call of the Haunted, you can set up powerful combos with your Artifacts!
Artifact Moralltach destroys an opponent’s face-up card when Summoned, and Artifact Beagalltach allows you to destroy your Spell/Trap Cards when Summoned. This allows you to Summon even more Artifacts! Artifact Caduceus lets you draw a card when an Artifact monster is Summoned on your opponent’s turn, so you can always have lots of Artifacts to Summon!
On the defensive end, Artifact Achilleshield protects your Artifacts from attacks, and Artifact Aegis protects your Artifacts from being destroyed or targeted by card effects for the turn. Artifact Scythe prevents your opponent from Special Summoning monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn! You can use these cards to stop your opponent from destroying your Artifacts, which lets you Xyz Summon more powerful monsters on your next turn!
Artifact Ignition works like Mystical Space Typhoon, but you also get to Set an Artifact monster from your Deck as a Spell Card! You can use it to destroy your own Artifact on your opponent’s turn to Special Summon it! Artifact Sanctum allows you to Special Summon any Artifact from your Deck in exchange for your Battle Phase during that turn. Play it on your opponent’s turn to negate this drawback and use the effect of the Summoned monster!
Once you’ve got two Artifact monsters on the field, you can combine them to Xyz Summon Artifact Durendal! Durendal forces both players to shuffle and redraw their hand from their Deck, or changes the effect of a monster or a Normal Spell/Trap Card to destroy one of your Spell/Trap Cards. Normally, this is not good, but when you force your opponent to destroy your Set Artifact, you’ll be able to Summon it and use its ability!
The Artifacts are a brand-new way to Summon monsters, while also making it really hard for your opponent to destroy your Set cards. Collect the Artifact monsters in Primal Origin, available on May 16 or get a Sneak Peek at participating Official Tournament Stores on May 9 and/or 10!
