The latest of Capcom’s crossovers, Street Fighter X Tekken brings the seminal fighting franchises together for a 2D slugfest. SFXT is all about the plural: Each player controls two fighters, and is able to swap between them on the fly. Players can even team up to fight on the same team (as seen in the recent Mortal Kombat reboot), allowing up to four players to take part in a fight. With a slew of ways to switch between combatants, the key to winning matches is very much how well the player(s) can manage a duo.
Though the game is mechanically very similar to Super Street Fighter IV, cross-canceling adds a new edge (each time you use a block of your Cross Gauge, you can bring in your partner in the middle of a combo). Several types of moves are performed the same way regardless of character, which makes the game more accessible by providing a simple foundation for noobs. There are plenty of individual moves, but you don't need to know them all to begin thwacking. Finally, the newly introduced gem system makes your character stronger and can be tailored to suit any individual fighting style.
Though the online play leaves something to be desired—there’s lag to contend with, which is very tricky in a tight, timing-based fighter—the game succeeds despite it. This is a smart and polished crossover that lowers the barrier to entry for those learning (and up against) the ropes.

Ed Note: Capcom sure made everyone mad by putting the DLC characters on the disc! It's too bad. That move put a dark stain on the release of this game and left a bad taste in gamer's mouths. Did it make you guys less likely to buy it? What do you think?
