Nothing shouts DYNAMIC ENTRY more than jumping right into a major battle and that's how Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Volume 3 starts. And this boss battle will test Konoha's mightiest, as the villain Momoshiki's just gone through a major power up! Naruto, Sasuke, the other Kage and young Boruto are all fighting for their lives and while it’s a battle of greats, Momoshiki seems to have gained the upper hand—at least for the moment.

It’s rewarding for any fan to see Naruto and Sasuke in action, not just simultaneously, but with teeming synergy that melds their two abilities into quite the formidable force. You don’t see a Susano'o-clad Kurama every day, but it sure does take you back to when the two would fight against each other. Seeing them fight alongside each other is a testament to the growth in not only their individual maturity, but also their brotherly bond.

However, is their combined power enough to subdue Momoshiki? For all the otherworldly enemies that the two have defeated in the past, Momoshiki’s chakra absorption powers seem to be unbeatable. If the combined strength of the five Kage plus Sasuke are not enough, then the rest is on Boruto. Wearing Naruto’s old jacket and Sasuke’s headband, Boruto steps in to dish out his own ultimate move.

We’ve had a handful of sweet moments between Sasuke and Boruto where we’ve witnessed the usual bluntness of Sasuke’s character mingled in with newfound softness. Get ready for a stellar moment between Naruto and Boruto where the former finally comes to understand, if only in part, the tremendous journey that the latter has undergone to attain the mantle of Hokage.

Now, for those who’ve watched Boruto: Naruto the Movie, volume 3 may seem redundant upon first glance. But what lies within the movie adaptation is a little surprise appendage to the plot that bears significant consequence for what’s to come in the next however-many volumes of the series.

Needless to say, Boruto volume 3 is no mere movie recap. With the close of the Momoshiki showdown, the manga shifts into its own groove, veering off on a completely new series of events for Boruto and his squad. With newfound resolve and purpose, Boruto declares the beginning of his story, not his father’s. And while Boruto still has a ways to go, many missions to complete and many characters to meet along the way, he’s got the footing to carve out his own ninja way. With a cheeky and charming blend of old with new, Boruto proves that the soul of a shinobi endures with each new springtime of youth.
