Legendary Duelists brings popular characters from the original series and beyond back to the main stage! Mako Tsunami is known for his mastery of the sea back in Duelist Kingdom and Battle City, using the ocean as an environmental advantage for his strategy. Sea Stealth is the name of the game for Mako, positioning his powerful sea creatures for attack and instilling fear for what could be lurking below. Mako gets a few new tricks to add to his arsenal thanks to Legendary Duelists, and the first one is an upgrade to his signature monster from the Battle City tournament!

The Legendary Fisherman II stands at Level 5 with 2200 ATK and 1800 DEF. While on the field and in the Graveyard, its name becomes The Legendary Fisherman. While Umi is on the field, The Legendary Fisherman II is unaffected by monster effects, so your opponent will likely have to use a Spell or Trap to deal with it. However, if it is destroyed by battle or leaves the field because of an opponent’s card effect, you can add a Level 7 WATER monster from your Deck to your hand! The Legendary Fisherman II is hard to deal with, and if your opponent does manage to get rid of it, you get to search for another monster that your opponent has to deal with.

So what’s the best monster to search? Citadel Whale, a Level 7 WATER monster from Legendary Duelists, is a great option. At 2350 ATK and 2150 DEF it packs a punch but what makes it powerful are its effects. If your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a WATER monster you control, you can negate the activation and destroy it. This makes Citadel Whale a hard threat to deal with, and what’s even better is that it is very easy to Summon. If Citadel Whale is in the hand or Graveyard, you can tribute two WATER monsters to Special Summon it! Right off the bat Citadel Whale is not only easy to Summon, but it can keep coming back even after your opponent has thought they saw the last of it. What makes things even better is that when it is Special Summoned, you can set a Sea Stealth Attack directly from your Deck. Bonuses are always strong, and once we get into what Sea Stealth Attack can do for Citadel Whale you’ll see why.

Sea Stealth Attack is a Continuous Trap that does a ton. First, when it is activated you can activate an Umi from your hand or Graveyard. Once Umi is on the field, Sea Stealth Attack gains two effects. Once per turn, you can banish a WATER monster you control until the End Phase, and for that turn face-up Spells and Traps you control cannot be destroyed. This is great because Sea Stealth Attack will not only protect itself, but it also protects Umi. Mako’s Sea Stealth strategy is all about concealing his monsters under the waves, so making sure Umi stays on the field is important. Banishing your monster with Sea Stealth Attack can also protect it from potential destruction giving you added value. The last effect of Sea Stealth Attack pairs great with Citadel Whale and other large sea creatures. If your WATER monster is Level 5 or higher and battles an opponent’s monster, you can destroy that monster at the start of the damage step! No monster will be able to take down your Citadel Whale once you have the ocean on your side.
