Long ago, the Counter Trap Fairy strategy was a big contender in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. The Deck is based around powerful Counter Traps to control the game and coupled with powerful Fairy Monsters like Bountiful Artemis to give you big bonuses for using those Counter Traps. While we haven’t seen much from this Fairy Deck in a while, Structure Deck: Wave of Light heralds a new era for the unique strategy!

Fairy Nice 0Power Angel Valkyria is a Level 4 LIGHT Fairy with 1800 ATK and 1050 DEF. It is a strong monster to Normal Summon so it can hold its own in battle. From there you can use your Counter Traps to ensure its safety from everything else. If you negate the activation of a Spell/Trap Card or monster effect, Power Angel Valkyria will trigger and add one LIGHT Fairy from your Deck to your hand! One big issue the Counter Trap Fairy Deck had prior to Structure Deck: Wave of Light was how low its monster count was. If you couldn’t find Bountiful Artemis, you would run out of cards fairly quickly, but with Power Angel Valkyria, you can find whatever Fairy best suits your needs!

Fairy Nice 0Power Angel Valkyria isn’t the only new Level 4 LIGHT Fairy. Minerva, Scholar of the Sky stands at 1700 ATK and 400 DEF with an effect that also helps you benefit from your Counter Traps. Each time a Counter Trap is activated, Minerva, Scholar of the Sky will permanently gain 500 ATK. While that isn’t the biggest bonus in the world, all those extra 500 ATK boosts add up! Additionally, if Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field, Minerva, Scholar of the Sky will also let you add a Counter Trap with a different name from your Graveyard to your hand! Now you can start recycling other Counter Traps back to your hand and keep up card flow just like Bountiful Artemis. While it takes a little more set up to pull off, you’re guaranteed to get more Counter Traps rather than a random draw!

Structure Deck: Wave of Light is ready to play out of the box, filled with powerful Fairy Monsters and Counter Traps to form a cohesive, controlling strategy. You can pick it up in stores on January 19, 2018!
