Chiaki really wants to be Riku’s friend, but Riku sees Chiaki as a possible romantic rival for Ten’s affections. One could argue that the character being most passionately pursued right now is Riku simply because of Chiaki’s determination.

Riku especially doesn’t want Chikai’s help when it comes to wooing Ten.

Riku gets so angry at Chiaki’s matchmaking, he threatens to take away what Chiaki holds most dear!

A really clever manga layout is on pages 90 and 91 in this volume. Although Chiaki and Riku are in different rooms during an argument, they appear to be looking at each other from the right and left sides of the spread. Excellently done!
