We leave no stone left unturned in this week's lesson!
Welcome to the Nihongo Lesson feature. We strive to give you useful manga-based Japanese language tips and maybe even a glimpse into the translation process. This week’s lesson will feature some terms from Dr. Stone! The recent big twist that there are humans in the stone world who have no understanding of the old world has really added a new element to the story. Seeing Senku interact with these new characters is hilarious!

YOUJUTSU (ようじゅつ)
YOUJUTSU can carry multiple meanings, but it basically means “sorcery.” Chrome is a really neat new character in Dr. Stone. Senku is a genius scientist in every way, but that can get boring. Enter Chrome, who is more like an idiot scientist! Actually, Chrome is plenty smart and resourceful. It will be interesting to see how he grows through working with Senku. Will he transform from sorcerer to scientist?

KOUGEKI (こうげき)
KOUGEKI means “attack.” Chrome unleashes some interesting KOUGEKI in his battle with Senku. When some amateur fireworks fail to impress, he brings out his big gun—a ball of sulfur. He then uses it for a devastatingly…minor…static electricity KOUGEKI. Senku is impressed, not by the shock but by Chrome’s ability to create the ball. Chrome will be a great addition to the kingdom of science!
