Nihongo Lesson 02/16/18

Water you waiting for?! Check out this week's Nihongo Lesson!

By John Bae February 16, 2018

Welcome to the Nihongo Lesson feature. We strive to give you useful manga-based Japanese language tips and maybe even a glimpse into the translation process. This week’s lesson will feature words from We Never Learn. It was nice to escape the cold winter weather with some chapters that take place at the beach—but they weren’t exactly relaxing!

UMI (うみ)

UMI means “ocean,” and it’s usually the word you use when talking about going to the beach. Yuiga finds himself away from studying for a change, but this is one of the most stressful trips to the UMI ever!

MIZUGI (みずぎ)

MIZUGI literally means “water clothes.” It’s the Japanese word for bathing suit or swimsuit. If you ever go to the UMI, keep an eye out for wild creatures going after your MIZUGI!

IRUKA (イルカ)

IRUKA is “dolphin.” The recent chapters of We Never Learn have featured one of the most mischievous IRUKA in manga history. What is it doing with all those MIZUGI?

KANI (かに)

KANI is “crab.” KANI is delicious, but in We Never Learn, they go after your MIZUGI too! Luckily for the girls in this series, Yuiga is always there to help get them out of major jams. Maybe it would be safest to just avoid the beach in the future…
