The nights are cold, Halloween is here, read these manga, and you’ll know fear!

ONE PIECE
Thriller Bark Arc | Vols. 46–50

'Cause this is Thriller…Thriller Bark! This story arc is perfect for Halloween! It’s got zombies, a mad doctor (complete with a secret laboratory), ghosts, freakish monsters, a haunted castle, and more. Plus, the main villain, Gekko Moria, looks like a crazy vampire and has the power to steal shadows and create armies of zombies! Luffy even turns into a monster for a while!

NURA: RISE OF THE YOKAI CLAN
Kirisaki Toryanse, the Ripper | Vols. 16–17

This whole series is great Halloween reading! While the main story is about a power struggle between yokai clans, there are tons of spooky side stories too. Like the tale of Kirisaki Toryanse, The Ripper—a gruesome yokai that uses giant scissors to cut off the faces of helpless girls so he can keep them for himself! Scary stuff!

COWA
Vol. 1

You want something scary to read on Halloween? Well, Cowa! literally means “scary” in Japanese! Okay, this manga isn’t exactly scary, but it is a great read, particularly if you love monsters! Ghosts, mummies, demons, ghouls, this series has it all. Paifu, the main character, is half-vampire, half-werekoala! We never knew werekoalas were that vicious! And he’s gonna need that strength if he hopes to get the medicine to cure the Monster Flu that has hit his village.

D. Gray-Man
Vols. 4–5

Vampires may have gotten too much attention in the past half decade, BUT what’s more Halloweenish than a sharp-fanged monster that likes to imbibe blood? In a small German village, a nefarious vampire, Arystar Krory, is killing off the locals one-by-one. But is he really the famed monster that sucks his victims dry? Exorcists Allen Walker and Lavi investigate and discover that they have a lot in common with this bloodsucker. But Arystar Krory is blinded by his love for Eliade, an akuma in disguise. Perhaps Allen Walker and his all-seeing eye can show him the way!

Blue Exorcist
Vol 2 Exwire Examination

This is another manga made for Halloween! It's about a teen named Rin that gets the surprise of a life when he finds out...he's the son of Satan! And like your typical teenager, he rebels against his father by going to school to become an exorcist! One of the scariest story arcs is in volume two when Rin and his classmates are taking the Exwire Examination. The examination isn't going well, because they keep fighting amongst themselves and not working as a team. But when the faculty leaves and the lights go out, a terrifying ghoul suddenly attacks! No one knows if it's part of the test or not, but one thing's for sure—the ghoul is definitely trying to kill them!

Rosario + Vampire
Rosario + Vampire Season II

Average high school student Tsukune can't get accepted into any high school! Finally, one accepts him, but little does he know it's a school for monsters! Complicating matters, the hottest chick in the school's totally fallen for him—and she's a vampire! Tsukune spends his time trying not to get killed by jealous student/monsters, trying to hide his identity, and fending off all the other girls (who are also monsters) that have fallen for him. While the story's usually fairly lighthearted, there are some pretty good "freak out" moments to be had.

Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation

Are you a victim of unwanted spirit possession? Who you gonna call? Muhyu & Roji! Muhyo and his assistant Roji run a supernatural investigation agency that helps people plagued with ghost problems. All kinds of ghost problems. Anything from simple possessions to very dangerous spirits. Specializing in magic law, Muhyo sentences ghosts to various punishments, and often his punishments are as freaky as the ghosts themselves! This is great Halloween reading and features some of the creepiest art in all of Shonen Jump manga

Hope your enjoyed our Halloween picks! And the best news is, the first volume of each series is available digitally! You can buy them from VIZ.com, and read 'em tonight! Have a safe, and happy Halloween!!!
