After Starter Deck: Link Strike, Duelists will really get to see just what Link Monsters can do in Code of the Duelist! The advent of Link Monsters brings exciting new gameplay and mechanics to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, and the Link Monsters from Code of the Duelist are especially powerful. Today we’re going to talk about Yusaku Fujiki’s Firewall Dragon!

Firewall Dragon is one of the best Link Monsters out there. With 2500 ATK it can hold its own, but you really want to use Firewall Dragon alongside other Link Monsters so you can benefit from its effect! Firewall Dragon is all about co-linking, which means you want Firewall Dragon and other Link Monsters to point at each other with their Link Arrows. That doesn’t necessarily mean you need your own Link Monster though, because you can always co-link Firewall Dragon with an opponent’s Link Monster!

Once Firewall Dragon is co-linked, you can spring into action. While Firewall Dragon is on the field, you can target monsters on the field and/or Graveyard up to the number of monsters co-linked to it and return them to the hand! The possibilities with Firewall Dragon are practically endless because of how versatile its effect is. You can use it to get rid of your opponent’s monsters, you can use it to bounce back your own monster or you can use it to reuse monsters that have already hit the Graveyard! The best part is that it’s a Quick Effect, meaning you can use it whenever during either player’s turn! That makes Firewall Dragon great on both offense and defense.

If that wasn’t enough, Firewall Dragon has an additional effect for even more versatility. When a monster that it points to is destroyed by battle or sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon a monster from your hand! Whether you’re on the offensive destroying your opponent’s monster or on the defensive and having your own monster destroyed, you can benefit from this effect and Special Summon another monster from your hand to either attack or defend you. Because the monster doesn’t have to be destroyed, you can do some pretty cool stuff with Link Summoning. By sending a monster that Firewall Dragon points at to the Graveyard as a Link Material, you can Special Summon another monster from your hand to keep the Link Summon train going! The more Link Monsters the better as Firewall Dragon really wants to be co-linked to as many Link Monsters as possible.

You can check out Firewall Dragon, more powerful Link Monsters, and other awesome stuff featured in Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS (now simulcast every Wednesday on Crunchyroll) when Code of the Duelist hits shelves August 8th!
