Portfolio Reviews @ TCAF 2024

VIZ Originals is returning to TCAF for portfolio reviews!

By VIZ Media April 25, 2024

VIZ Originals is excited to return to TCAF to participate in Portfolio Reviews and meet aspiring mangaka! We’re particularly interested in one-shot stories, so if you are working on a one-shot and want feedback, sign-up for a review by former Editor-in-Chief of Shonen Jump, Hisashi SASAKI! If you don’t have a one-shot ready, we also have general portfolio reviews available. We would love to see samples of your sequential art that highlight dynamic paneling, skillful black-and-white artwork, and compelling storytelling.

This will be an in-person portfolio review, so applicants must attend TCAF on the day of review.

Check our portfolio guidelines below for what we look for in a submission.

All set? Fill out the form to begin!

One-shots Review Guidelines

We are interested in original manga one-shots that are:

  • Between 20–50 pages
  • A self-contained story (not a chapter 1 of a longer story)
  • Completed pages or thumbnails of the full story

Portfolio Guidelines

To give us the best idea of your talents, these are what we’d like to see in your portfolios:

Artists:

  • Samples of sequential works that best highlight your art style and storytelling
  • Best works that showcase composition, character expressions, and scene details
  • Include finished pieces, not only sketch or concept work
  • Include original character art pieces – some fan work is okay

Writers:

  • Samples of sequential works that best highlight your writing and story ideas
  • List your creative writing work – prose and fan work is okay
  • VIZ Originals can only consider writing samples in English at this time
