Unseen Threat

One of the most mysterious cards finally comes to light in Duelist Saga!

By John Bae March 30, 2017

0330 Ygo 1The one card from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s that caused the most debate and intrigue amongst Duelists is one that never actually appeared on-screen! Late in the series, the words “Cosmic Blazar Dragon” appeared on a read out in the lair of Yusei’s time-traveling doppelganger, indicating that it was Yusei’s strongest monster. In the end, however, Yusei defeated Z-one with the power of Shooting Quasar Dragon instead, preventing the destruction of Neo Domino City. So...what happened to Cosmic Blazar Dragon, and what does it do?

In just a few days, the Duelist Saga set will provide the answer, printing the never-before-seen Cosmic Blazar Dragon for the first time! It has the same Synchro Summoning requirements as Shooting Quasar Dragon, but its abilities are quite different, and it more closely resembles Shooting Star Dragon than Shooting Quasar Dragon. Cosmic Blazar Dragon has three Quick Effects—each of which requires you to banish it until the End Phase as a cost.

0330 Ygo 1If your opponent activates a card or effect, you can negate it. If they Summon a monster, you can negate the Summon. And if they attack with a monster, you can negate the attack and end the Battle Phase. Together with its 4000 ATK, the effects of Cosmic Blazar Dragon make it a truly frightening force. Add in the fact that you can successfully use King’s Synchro to Summon Cosmic Blazar Dragon without giving up the ability to attack like you would with Shooting Quasar Dragon, and it’s easy to see how Cosmic Blazar Dragon can dominate Duels.

While Cosmic Blazar Dragon is certainly the flashiest and most long awaited, there are plenty of other cards in Duelist Saga for fans of 5D’s ! Stardust Dragon gets Cosmic Flare, an “attack Spell” in the same vein as Dark Magic Attack or Inferno Fire Blast. Cosmic Flare lets your Stardust Dragon shuffle any monster it battles back into the Deck instead of having to actually fight it, and you can banish Cosmic Flare from your Graveyard instead of Tributing Stardust Dragon to activate its effect. One of the biggest dangers of Summoning Stardust Dragon is that it’s more than possible to Summon something bigger than it without tripping its effect, but with Cosmic Flare, Stardust Dragon can eliminate even the strongest monsters without breaking a sweat!

Duelist Saga launches on March 31!
