Good Chemistry!

Watch your foe melt down after you play these cards!

By John Bae November 10, 2016

Invasion: Vengeance is finally here, and while the name of the booster itself sounds super serious, there are a lot of unique, strange, and just plain fun cards to be had!

Chemicritters are animal-like Gemini monsters based on the elements that make up all living things, stuff like oxygen, carbon and hydrogen. Much like the elements they represent, they seek each other out and bond together on the field. Their exclusive Xyz Monster, Vola-Chemicritter Methydraco, needs two Level 8 Gemini monsters as its Xyz Materials, but if you know your team chemistry, Summoning it will cause an absolutely devastating Dueling reaction! Each time you Normal Summon a Gemini monster, you can detach an Xyz Material from Methydraco to force your opponent to eliminate one of their own cards.

Carbon is an element common to all known forms of life, and it’s the best place to start in a Chemicritter Deck! Chemicritter Carbo Crab’s effect lets you send a Gemini monster from your Deck to the Graveyard then add a Gemini monster from your Deck to your hand. Loading up the Graveyard with Gemini monsters lets you use Normal Monster-exclusive revival cards like Swing of Memories to get extra Summons. In particular, you want to send more Carbo Crabs to the Graveyard, and we’ll talk about why later. You’ll also want to use Catalyst Field, which we introduced a couple weeks back, to get extra Summons for your Gemini monsters and a way to break down your opponent’s defenses while protecting the parts of your combo until you’re ready to strike.

Your goal is to get Chemicritter Oxy Ox on the field with its effect active, Poly-Chermicritter Hydragon or Poly-Chemicritter Dioxogre in your hand, and a pair of Chemicritter Carbo Crabs in your Graveyard. You’ll also need either Supervise, which is in the Joey Deck from Legendary Decks II, or something else that can revive one of the Carbo Crabs. Use Oxy Ox to Special Summon Hydragon or Dioxogre from your hand and set all your monsters’ Levels to 8. Then, Xyz Summon Vola-Chemicritter Methydraco. When you do, you’ll get to Summon one of your Carbo Crabs back to the field, and if you had Supervise equipped to Oxy Ox (or a separate revival card), you’ll get to Summon the second one back as well. Why is Carbo Crab so important? Because it’s Toadally Awesome!

Rather, each Carbo Crab is half of Toadally Awesome! This new Xyz Monster needs two Level 2 Aqua-Type monsters, like Carbo Crab, as Xyz Material, and its effect is far out. If your opponent activates any Spell/Trap Card or monster effect, you can send an Aqua-Type monster from your hand or field to the Graveyard to negate that activation, destroy the card, then take the card and Set it on your side of the field instead!

Vola-Chemicritter Methydraco and Toadally Awesome make for a slightly silly but incredibly powerful one-two punch that’s bound to make even the person you’re using it on smile a little bit! Invasion: Vengeance is available now.
