It’s May, and what could be more exciting than warm weather, barbecues and summer vacation? A pretty super manga by the name of Dragon Ball Super written by Toriyama Sensei himself, of course! That’s right! After much anticipation, volume one is finally here. If you’ve been paying attention to the Shonen Jump free section, you already know what the hype is all about. But if you haven’t, here’s everything that’s in store for you when you pick up your brand new, super awesome copy of Volume 1!

Everyone’s favorite hero, Son Goku, returns…and his life couldn’t be more boring! After saving the world from the evil Boo, his wife, Chi-Chi, has doomed him to a life of work to make end’s meet. But all Goku wants to do is train and take on stronger opponents!!

Elsewhere in the universe, the God of Destruction, Beerus, has awoken! And he’s wreaking havoc on unsuspecting planets in search of food and entertainment (many of whom probably deserve it, but it’s still not nice of him to destroy entire civilizations). On one planet, he’s reminded of a mysterious man from his dreams known only as the “Super Saiyan God,” or something like that. He really can’t remember because…it was a dream, after all.

This volume is filled with action-packed fun and adventure—featuring some of your old favorites like Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo, anime and movie favorites like Beerus and Whis, and some new faces to the manga like Champa, Cabbe, Hit, and Frost! The manga even reaches into the expanded Dragon Ball universe and features characters like Jaco from Jaco the Galactic Patrolman!

I don’t want to spoil everything for this volume, but it is definitely a fun ride. Even though it’s a sequel to the original, new and old fans can appreciate the content from a fresh perspective. It maintains Toriyama Sensei's classic storytelling with Toyotarou Sensei’s beautiful art. There are new transformations and more than enough action to keep you wanting more!

The volume is split into two parts—the introduction to the new world and new characters and the beginning of the Universe 6 and 7 Invitational Fighting Tournament. This volume also features an exclusive interview with both Toriyama and Toyotarou Sensei.

Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 1 is available now, so I hope you enjoy it! And if you haven’t checked out the free section yet, you should. It’s FREE!
