What a Zoo!

Enrage your opponent with these cards from Raging Tempest!

By John Bae February 09, 2017

A lot of the hype surrounding Raging Tempest has to do with the new “Zoodiac” monsters, Beast-Warriors that excel at Xyz Summoning! They work a little differently than regular Xyz Monsters in that each “Zoodiac” Xyz Monster is the sum of its parts...literally!

“Zoodiac” Xyz Monsters can be Xyz Summoned in one of two ways. You can Summon them using the written Xyz Material requirements, or once per turn per monster you can use any one “Zoodiac” monster as the sole Xyz Material for the Summon. Zoodiac Broadbull, for instance, can be Summoned using two Level 4 monsters or one “Zoodiac” monster. Each “Zoodiac” Xyz Monster then inherits the combined ATK and combined DEF of every “Zoodiac” monster it has as Xyz Material along with an effect unique to each basic Zoodiac.

Let’s say you use Zoodiac Thoroughblade and Zoodiac Whiptail to Xyz Summon Zoodiac Broadbull. Broadbull will have 2800 ATK and 400 DEF. It will also inherit the ability to inflict piercing battle damage from Thoroughblade and the ability to banish any monster it battles from Whiptail. With different combinations of Zoodiacs, you can customize your “Zoodiac” Xyz Monsters to fit whatever situation you find yourself in!

One of the keys to making sure you can create the custom monsters you need to win is making sure that you have access to the right “Zoodiac” monsters at all times. They’re all Level 4 Beast-Warrior Type monsters, so you can use Fire Formation - Tenki to search them out of your Deck and Fire Formation - Tensu to give yourself an extra Normal Summon to use on a Beast-Warrior. Alternatively, you can use the new Continuous Spell Card Zoodiac Barrage, which lets you destroy a face-up card you control to Special Summon a “Zoodiac” monster straight from your Deck. This card can even destroy itself, making it even easier to assemble the 3 or 4 monsters you might need to Xyz Summon some of the more powerful “Zoodiac” Xyz Monsters with plenty of ATK and DEF.

And don’t forget! Each “Zoodiac” Xyz Monster also has its own special ability in addition to the ones it inherits from its Xyz Materials! Zoodiac Broadbull can add more Beast-Warriors from your Deck to your hand, Zoodiac Tigermortar can reconfigure your Xyz Material set-up by swapping Xyz Materials with “Zoodiac” monsters from your Graveyard and Zoodiac Drident can destroy a face-up card on the field every turn!

You can start customizing your own “Zoodiac” Xyz Monsters when Raging Tempest launches on February 10!
