The Man Who Could Not Miss...

What skill does a basketball team need most to win in Kuroko's Basketball, Vol. 2?

By John Bae October 19, 2016

What would be the most advantageous skill to possess in a basketball game? Seirin High's first-year sensation, Tetsuya Kuroko, has the incredible ability to misdirect people's attention away from him, turning him into a veritable invisible man on the court! But back in middle school, Kuroko wasn't even a starter on his team. Instead, he was the "phantom sixth man" that helped the legendary Teiko Middle School team go undefeated. Which leads us back to our original question, could Kuroko's skill be the ultimate skill to possess? Naysayers would probably say that when it all comes down to it, the team that shoots a higher percentage usually wins. And if, by some miracle (generation, hah!) there is a player who can make every shot, that SHOULD be the ultimate skill in a game about getting buckets. Enter Shintaro Midorima.

Shintaro Midorima is, without a doubt, the GOAT (greatest of all time) of Japanese high school jump-shooters. He was also a a member of the famed Teiko Middle School team, except unlike Kuroko, he was a starter that was feared! And now he's taken his talents to Shutoku High, the team that Kuroko and his fellow Seirin High teammates must defeat in order to qualify for the Finals League.

Thankfully, Seirin has scouting intel from not only Kuroko, who played all throughout middle school with Midorima, but also their savvy team manager Riko. But can a scouting report based on past history be truly accurate when it comes to singular talents like Midorima? And what if his skill defies all logic and explanation, revolutionizing the way the game is played and viewed?

Despite all this, Seirin still hasn't lost heart! After all, this game's outcome will decide whether or not Seirin will make it to the next level. And thankfully, Kuroko's misdirection isn't the only skill he possesses on an elite level...
