By John Bae July 29, 2016

Welcome to the Nihongo Lesson feature. We strive to give you useful manga-based Japanese language tips and maybe even a glimpse into the translation process. This week's lesson will feature some terms from Dragon Ball Super, the sequel to the Shonen Jump classic! This action series is one of the many new manga that are available for free HERE !

CHOU (ちょう)

CHOU means "super" and is the perfect subtitle for a new Dragon Ball series. After all, the original series featured Goku and other Saiyan characters who could transform into Super Saiyans. Dragon Ball Super also introduces Super Dragon Balls, gigantic wishing balls that are scattered across multiple universes. Yes, there are now multiverses in the series. Will Goku soon run into a version of himself from another universe?

HAKAISHIN (はかいしん)

HAKAISHIN literally means "god of destruction." Dragon Ball Super introduces Beerus, the God of Destruction of the universe Goku and friends live. Other godlike characters have appeared in the series, but Beerus is significantly stronger than anyone Goku has ever faced, and he's not even the strongest character in Super!
