VIZ Media is looking for a Bilingual (Japanese-English) Contracts Administrator to join our Legal team! 

  • Ability to fluently read, write, and speak effectively in both English and Japanese is A MUST.
  • Ability to translate documentation and interpret from Japanese to English and/or English to Japanese as needed.
  • Paralegal experience in the entertainment industry or with entertainment clients PREFERRED.
  • Familiarity with Worldmark Database or CPI database, docketing systems PREFERRED.
  • Active Notary Public Commission PREFERRED, if not, willingness to become a Notary at company expense A MUST.
 
SUMMARY
Assists General Counsel and other legal staff with routine aspects of legal and factual data compilation and analysis, drafting legal documents and affidavits, and conveying routine legal information under supervision.
           
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  1. Contract administration for documents and agreements related to company’s varied business interests.
  2. Processes and manages international intellectual property filings for company and its affiliates with outside counsel assistance, including overseeing all filings, registrations and oppositions for company related copyrights and trademarks.
  3. Maintains trademark, copyright, central, working and chronological files; maintains calendar of due dates for documents and materials needed for Business Affairs of company.
  4. Notarizes documents as needed on behalf of company and its affiliates.
  5. Researches projects relating to Business Affairs transactions as needed.
  6. Coordinates with General Counsel and liaises with other departments and affiliates regarding contracts, correspondence, filing and communications and handles special research and other projects as needed.
  7. Provides calendaring, scheduling and other administrative assistance to General Counsel
 
In addition to the above, performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
 
MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to fluently read, write, and speak effectively in both English and Japanese is A MUST.
  • Ability to translate documentations and interpret from Japanese to English and/or English to Japanese as needed.
  • ·Skill with Internet, MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and other Mac software. 
  • Paralegal experience in the entertainment industry or with entertainment clients PREFERRED.
  • Familiarity with Worldmark Database or CPI database, docketing systems PREFERRED.
  • Active Notary Public Commission PREFERRED, if not, willingness to become a Notary at company expense A MUST.
  • Ability to interact with culturally diverse clients, service providers, and staff.
  • Ability to work legally in the United States.
  • Ability to live in/commute to the SF Bay Area.
 
MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION
  • Equivalent of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position.
  • Minimum 2 years paralegal or contract administrator experience required, preferably within a law firm practice or in-house legal environment. 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not supervise the work of others.
 
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials, weighing up to 20 pounds, kneeling, bending. Approximately 70 percent of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal. Must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices.
 
Must be able to use or learn to use standard office equipment such as copiers, faxes, mailing machines and other related machinery.
 
As part of a multi-media entertainment company, employees may be subjected to work-related images including content such as: sexually explicit images, nudity, and graphic violence. Employees should be willing to work with this type of content. VIZ Media does not condone the viewing of this content where not work-related.
 
OTHER INFORMATION
Employees must adhere to all applicable VIZ Media policies and procedures. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Willingness and ability to work non-standard business hours, such as nights, on an as-needed basis is required. Employees must be able to cope effectively with deadlines and multiple demands.
